Happy Holidays!

You're thinking about it, right?....booking a holiday somewhere in the sun....aaaahhhh....

Whether you’re enjoying this fabulous British summer weather or venturing further afield this year, here are
some valuable tips to take on holiday with you. This month we’re covering travel sickness, jetlag and beastie
bites.

My absolute number 1 remedy for taking away on holiday is Arsenicum Album... if you take no other remedy
with you then take this one! It can stop travelling tummy problems within a few minutes. Burning, griping
tummy ache with sickness and diarrhoea... know what that feels like? Arsenicum is the remedy to take.

TRAVEL SICKNESS

Cocculus: My#1 travel sickness remedy. Particularly for that constant nausea often brought on by undulating
motion on a boat, car or plane. Worse for the sight, smell or even thought of food. Feeling of weakness and/or
dizziness, also empty or hollow feeling in the stomach. People needing Cocculus will be very tired... it’s a great
remedy for jetlag too!

Petroleum: Constant nausea, again with an empty feeling but may feel a bit better if they eat something. They
may have excessive salivation and pain in the stomach and even the back of the head & neck.

Tabacum: Nauseous, faint, green, extremely pale, icy cold, or very tired with a terrible sinking feeling in the
pit of the stomach. May also be accompanied by a cold sweat, yellow or yellow-green vomit and a headache
that feels like a tight band pulled around the head. The person may feel better with cold, fresh air, or when
closing the eyes, and worse with any movement.

Argent Nit: Dizziness, nausea, and vomiting suggest this remedy, especially if the person is excitable and
anxious. The person may also feel claustrophobic and/or have a fear of flying.

JETLAG

No one wants to be too tired to enjoy their holiday, or indeed come home feeling like they haven’t had a break
because they’re so tired... a few remedies will really help you to adjust your body clock so that you’re firing on
all cylinders again in no time.

Arnica: It’s a shock to the system travelling over time zones. Arnica will help to ease that shock by assisting
you to sleep and overcoming the tiredness.

Cocculus: One of the main indications for this remedy is that over-wrought feeling which comes from a lack of
sleep. Alternate this remedy with Arnica every 4 hours.

Lycopodium: It’s not always thought of as being a jetlag remedy but I have found that you might get back
into a good sleep pattern quickly using Arnica and Cocculus but you don’t quite feel yourself because your
digestion hasn’t caught up with you yet. Lycopodium will help get things back to regular movements again!

There are also some great essences available to help with travel issues. Travel Essence from Australian Bush
Essence range is good, so is the Alaskan essence combination, TravelEase.

BEASTIE BITES

Itch, scratch, scratch! Argh! These little beasties bites hurt and can ruin a fabulous tan. Some remedies can
help to take away the itch, and help prevent infection. A couple of additions to your diet might help too...
apparently biting insects don’t like the taste of you if you take a Vitamin B complex and garlic capsules.

Staphisagria: this is my #1 remedy for insect bites. Itching that makes you cross!

Apis: #1 remedy for bee stings. The area will be hot and puffy. It will feel better for cold applications
and will feel worse for touch and heat.

Ledum: great remedy for bites and stings of all kinds. It may look pale and swollen and it may feel cold. If it is
given soon after the bite it may help to prevent Tetanus.

Hypericum: again another remedy which helps to prevent Tetanus. Particularly good if the injury feels like the
nerves are damaged.

All essences and remedies are available to buy from good health-food shops, or you could order them directly
from me.

And do remember the most important advice: wherever you are going or whatever you’re doing, have a great
holiday!

The Hayfever Season

If you have signed up to my newsletter on my website you may already have got this..... but here it is again for those who haven't....

A few tips on dealing with hayfever symptoms, naturally!

This is the most common allergy in the UK. 1 in 5 of us will suffer from it at some point in our
lives and that number is growing all the time.
Some people’s symptoms persist long after the pollen season and they become affected by other
things such as tobacco smoke, changes in temperature, exercise or even bad smells.

Young people are taking exams when symptoms are often at their worst. Studies have shown that
those suffering are 40% more likely to drop a grade between their mocks and their final exams.

So here are some solutions which are safe and side-effect free.
Remember that “Homeopathy” means “similar suffering” so match the symptoms of the person &
their illness to the picture of the remedy and you’ve got a good homeopathic prescription!

Allium Cepa

Nose: profuse, burning, thin discharge causing soreness on upper lip, with lots of sneezing,
particularly from smell of flowers.
Eyes: profuse watering and itchy, but tears don’t burn.
Throat: May also have a tickly cough
Worse: in the evening, during humid weather, and for being warm.
Better: for cool, fresh air, for keeping moving and bathing affected areas in cool water.

Arsenicum

Nose: violent sneezing without relief. Thin, watery, burning discharge. Feels blocked.
Eyes: swollen, burning and sensitive to light
Throat: burning & sore.
Chest: feels tight with a cough
Worse: anything cold, being outside
Better: warmth and applications of heat, rest.

Euphrasia

Nose: thin discharge from nose - doesn’t burn. Some sneezing.
Eyes: severely affected by burning discharge and lots of tears. Often with swelling of the lids and
aversion to bright lights (sunshine) and accompanied by a headache.
Worse: indoors, warmth, windy weather and in the evening
Better: outdoors, cold, darkness and gently wiping the eyes.

Nux Vomica

Nose: blocked, especially first thing in the morning, with sneezing.
Eyes: bloodshot and sore and irritated
Throat: itching ... and in the ears too.
Worse: cold draughts, noises, smells... anything which irritates you ... and most things will!
Better: for being left alone and being warm.

Sabadilla

Nose: severe bouts of sneezing, runny or dry leaving one nostril blocked. Extremely sensitive to
smelling flowers. Very itchy nose, may want to rub it. Irritation can spread through whole body.
Eyes: red & watery with burning swollen lids.
Throat: dry and sore, worse for swallowing.
Worse: cold, strong smells, mental effort (thinking makes you worse!)
Better: warmth and fresh air

You can buy these from good pharmacies & healthfood shops (or you can buy them from me ☺).

I hope you find all of this useful and that you’ll have the confidence to try using homeopathic

A Homeopathic Proving

Have you ever wondered how we find out what a remedy is used for? There are thousands of substances out there, over 4000 of which have been made into homeopathic remedies....but how do we know what to use it for?

All homeopathic remedies are tested on people. No guinea pigs or monkeys or dogs thank you! Remedies are tested on healthy, consenting human beings.

The remedy is made up..... and I'll do a page on that some time soon....but today I'm talking about a Proving of a remedy because I took part in one myself a couple of years ago and the results are just out! (Homeopaths can have a copy of the results of the Proving if you send an email toSarah@NaturallyHomeopathic.com)

A group of us, some sixteen in all, gathered at a house to be assigned our roles in the proving. As there were 16 of us we split into two groups, one group of Provers (the one who actually takes the remedy) and the other of Supervisors (the Homeopath who takes the case over the time span of the Proving). We talked at length about the process, although we were never at any point told what the remedy was. Trusting in the process is required and we were all entering into this with our eyes open. But this process has been completed thousands of times and every single person has survived a Proving with no lasting ill effects, so why should this be any different?!  We were given our partner and our role. I was a Prover...I was actually going to take the remedy!

My supervisor and I agreed to meet the following week for me to give her my base-line case. We needed to write down what my "normal" was so that we could tell what had changed during the Proving. And then, the next day, at the allotted time ...I took the remedy. From that moment on I was going to keep a very detailed diary...an account of how I felt at different times during the day, of any physical symptoms and every change in mood and emotion and how it affected me.
That was 10am. I was in clinic that morning, seeing patients. So I had taken the remedy...my head hadn't exploded...my legs hadn't fallen off.....

The instructions were, if there were no symptoms to take another pillule at 12noon. Nothing had changed as far as I could see so at 12 I took another one. That was possibly a bit of a mistake because what I hadn't really realised was I was already having problems with my memory....words just being a bit elusive and I just couldn't think very clearly. The rest of the month (that's how long the Proving was for) was all a bit of a haze of forgotten appointments, confused conversations and frustrated outbursts.....and I was exhausted!
For the first week I spoke to my supervisor daily... and she took down what I said...it was great...like seeing a Homeopath every day :0). From the second week onwards the contact was not as often but still regular enough to keep her up to date. Most of the symptoms were going to come out in the early days of the Proving anyway so this arrangement worked quite well.

I found it challenging to say the least, to stick with the process religiously. I felt very frustrated at my foggy mind and at one point, after a couple of weeks, stopped writing and recording with total conviction. I became quite angry.... but after a few days I picked it up again because I knew this remedy was going to be immensely useful to people who were experiencing these kinds of symptoms. I was thinking in terms of Autism, Dementia and possibly menopausal brain fog, or ME/CFS/FMS type states.

The symptoms produced in a Proving are those which the remedy will heal. This is how Homeopathy works.... "like cures like".

At the end of the month we all met up again to see the closing of the Proving. We were then able to share some of our experiences. How absolutely fascinating that many of us had had similar symptoms...we had had similar dreams, emotions and changes in behaviour. (one Prover had started swearing...I mean REALLY swearing.... but that was normal for me, lol!)
It was at this point we were told what the remedy was. Of course we had all wondered at some point what it might have been. Some people, the more intuitive ones amongst us had been fairly close to guessing it right. It was in fact a remedy which had been made during the Millennium Eclipse in August 1999. An interesting time......

The process was really interesting and I would encourage any Homeopath who hasn't taken part in one to do it! I feel like as a Homeopath I owe it to my profession to do this at least once....otherwise how will we find the remedies of the future? And of course you don't have to be a Homeopath to take part in a Proving...again, if you get the opportunity to take part it's interesting and you can learn a lot not just about this process but about yourself as well.

Remember that Homeopathy is safe and effective. You don't have to go through a Proving to benefit from its healing ability. If you haven't tried it already, make an appointment with a Homeopath.... hey, that could even be me because I do consultations by email and phone.
In health and happiness,
Sarah <3

Animals can't lie...or be persuaded that it's a placebo....

A few weeks ago I was asked if I could take in a couple of kittens whose mother had abandoned them. She had taken some of the litter but left these two. I've never been able to see anything being left out in the cold, uncuddled and cared for so of course my answer was yes.
They were two little toms, about three weeks old and both were black & white. They thrived on raw minced chicken, beef and liver with a bit of finely chopped veggies thrown in occasionally. Because they were so young though they still needed milk. I bought the baby kitten/puppy formula milk from the pet shop and they took that happily from a bottle for a couple of days. Many cats don't tolerate cows milk very well however and on the advice of another homeopath who runs a cat sanctuary I changed their milk to goats milk. They loved that!
But we live quite a distance from the nearest shop....and and even more considerable distance from a shop which sells goats milk and I had run out. It was late Saturday evening so they just had to have some of the formula until someone could get to the shop the next day.
Overnight one of the kittens, Little Oliver (as he was known) became quite ill. He vomited and had diarrhoea in the bed (their bed thankfully, not mine) and was quite listless, not interested in eating, playing or doing anything other than sleeping. It was not looking good. I couldn't persuade him to drink and it was looking rather like a trip to the vet was necessary. That wasn't going to be cheap on a Sunday. So first I got my remedy kit out......
China was looking like a likely candidate here..... he was suffering after a loss of fluids, he was sleeping a lot and I had nothing to lose at this point. But China 6c didn't do anything. He still lay there on my knee, or cuddled up on my shoulder not moving very much, panting occasionally but certainly taking no interest in life. I began to feel a bit of rising panic (it's ok....it's what I do!) and decided that this litte "corpse" needed reviving....so I gave him some Carbo Veg 30c. Again nothing. Nothing changed. He was struggling here and I couldn't do much for him but cuddle him to make him feel better...... LIGHTBULB MOMENT! He wanted cuddles, he was visibly more comfortable when we went outside, he got poorly when he drank the wrong kind of milk and he had been abandoned by his mum...... I gave him a drop of Pulsatilla 200c and he shook his head, jumped off my knee and chased his brother under the kitchen table.
And that was it.... from that moment on he has been fine. He moved into his new home a week ago and he is a healthy happy little kitty.

The Homeopath is At Home!

Hello

This may be the very shortest post ever....I just want to see what this feels and looks like :0)
